Kern bring traditional folk music to new heights

KERN blends the driving uilleann pipes and poignant whistles of Brendan McCreanor with the dynamic fiddle playing of Barry Kieran and the dark, authoritative voice and guitar of SJ McArdle.

All three men are from Louth, and this is reflected in their repertoire, which includes tunes and songs from all over the county as well as self-written new ones.

Kern have been writing and recording over the past number of months

KERN has been featured on RTE Radio 1’s Ceili House and has already played a host of festivals and concerts in Ireland.

Fresh from a triumphant appearance at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, gigs in Whelans, Dublin and Dolans, Limerick the band has just released their debut album ‘False Deceiver’ at their launch event in the Unitarian Church, Dublin.

The band comes from a wide range influences such as The Bothy Band. Planxty. Tom Waits. Horslips. De Dannan. Richard Thompson. Fairport Convention. REM. Warren Zevon. Blur. Patrick Kavanagh. Thomas Kinsella. Stockton’s Wing. John Mellencamp
