WHO IS DEREK ELLARD?

For people who like artists such as Villagers, Frank Turner, Ben Howard and TTNG. Describing himself as an alternative folk artist, Derek cut his teeth on the Irish circuit, playing 100+ gigs in his first year alone. Deciding to leave the one man, loop pedal & acoustic guitar set up behind, he is now accompanied by a full band called ‘The Future Business Model’ which includes former guitarist of Race The Flux – Joe Padfield and former bassist of Ka tet – Kyle Dee, along side drummer – Dylan Murphy.

Derek has gone from strength to strength since releasing his self produced, debut EP ‘Candour’ in 2015. He has began to lean towards a more math lilt in his sound, incorporating a denser musical aesthetic whilst not forgetting a strong homophony aspect, re-iterating the fact that he is anything but stagnant in his creativity.

Even though he has not been touring in past few years due to the completion of his degree in songwriting at BIMM, Dublin, Derek has been lucky enough to support the likes of Gavin James, Admiral Fallow, Wallis Bird, La galaxie and The Unthanks. Keep an eye out for Derek on the live music scene through out Ireland in the future!
